  • Swinton Square smashes Easter egg collection challenge

Swinton Square launched its first ever Easter challenge in early March.  The goal was to collect 100 Easter Eggs for poorly children in the local area, to bring some much needed smiles and a treat to children who might need them.

A donation station was set up at the management suite and residents were asked to donate an Easter Egg if they could when doing their essential shopping at Swinton Square.  It was a great community effort, with the total being more than smashed after only a week!  Over 230 eggs have been collected.  Our thanks go out to Swinton Square businesses too who also supported the challenge.   Asda and Boots were quick to offer support as well as some of our smaller, local businesses like the florist, freezer shop and essential retailers currently open at the centre.

Chris Doidge, Swinton Square, Centre Manager stated, “I am so pleased with how the challenge went.  I have seen first hand how generous and supportive the people of Swinton have been over the last year in the community.  Our thanks go out to residents and businesses alike who were able to donate to this worthwhile cause. I didn’t expect to smash the target by so many!”

The recipient of the hoard is Salford Royal Hospital children’s cancer ward as well as for nurses to hand out when conducting home visits to poorly children out in the community. They were extremely pleased with the news regarding the donation and have put processes in place to deliver the eggs safely.

Lisa Halden, Fundraising Administrator at Salford Royal, commented; “It was great to receive the phone call from Swinton Square asking if they could donate some Easter Eggs to the Hospital.  They initially thought it would be 40-50 eggs but their target of 100 quickly exploded to over 150 and then well over their target to 230 eggs!  We will make sure that they are given out to patients as a special treat this Easter.  A big thank you from us all on their behalf.”

Swinton Square looks forward to welcoming visitors back to the Centre from 12th April, when non essential retailers can open again and hope that residents will continue to shop local and support their local shops and businesses.  Until then, best wishes for a Happy Easter from all at Swinton Square.
