Swinton is packed with independent retailers, so we’ve been chatting to the people behind the businesses to find out more…
This week, we caught up with Helen from Swinton Pet Supplies…
When did you start Swinton Pet Supplies and why?
I started Swinton Pet Supplies in June 2016, I’ve always had a love of animals and have worked in the pet shop industry for 12 years.
What’s it like to work at Swinton Square?
Swinton Square is like a community. We have lots of regular loyal customers who buy from the small businesses in the centre, or sometimes like to just call in for a chat.
What pets do you have?
I have two cats, a rabbit, a chameleon and tropical fish.
The evenings are getting lighter and this weekend’s set to be a warm one. Any top tips for pet owners?
Try and avoid highly processed treats and opt for natural alternatives for your pet. Most people find their pets actually prefer the natural option and many have nutritional benefits too, such as naturally occurring omega oils, glucosamine (which supports joints) and they are hypoallergenic.
During this time, take your dog for an early morning or late night walk, and as the weather gets warmer, keep them cool throughout the day with cooling vests or a damp towel or covered ice pack for them to lie on.
Make sure there’s shaded area for your cat outside too, and for those who feed wild birds and hedgehogs, make sure fresh drinking water is available.
