Meet Swinton Pool Hall
Swinton is packed with independent retailers, so we’ve been chatting to the people behind the businesses to find out more…
This week, we caught up with Swinton Pool Hall…
When did Swinton Poolhall open and how did it get started?
The Poolhall was opened 40 years ago in January 1980 by Bob and Joan Spencer. It was previously called ‘Precinct Pool’ but in the early 80’s we changed the name to ‘Swinton Leisure’ with the addition of our Indoor Bowling in 1985.
However, everyone calls us ‘Swinton Poolhall’ so we have recently changed the name to that, but still retain all of our sports.
How have you seen the business change over time?
Our business is always evolving and has changed many times over the years. Our most recent new direction was running 30 board darts competitions with Lancashire Darts Organisation in our bowling area.
How and when did you get into billiards/pool?
My Dad’s brother was 3 time World Snooker Champion John Spencer, so it’s always been in the blood.
What are the top three skills that a person should perfect in order to win games?
Practice, Determination and Patience.
How has the business changed due to COVID-19?
We are currently open with a very good track and trace policy. All of our customers will have their temperature taken and recorded and all tables and equipment are cleaned thoroughly after use in accordance with Government guidance.
What’s it like to work at Swinton Square?
Swinton Square has always been a great hub of the community, but even after 40 years some locals haven’t experienced the facilities we have on offer.
We have 9 Snooker tables, 12 Supreme Winner Pool tables and an American Pool table. We also have 3 Indoor Bowling Rinks and a well-equipped fitness gym!
