Swinton is packed with independent retailers, so we’ve been chatting to the people behind the businesses to find out more…
This week, we caught up with Darren from Freeze Factory…
When did you start Freeze Factory?
Freezefactory first opened in February 1996 when Lee, my dad Pete and I realised the greengrocery trade we were working in was sadly in decline. We knew we needed to diversify and saw an opportunity in the frozen food market. We sourced suppliers, and found our first unit in Walkden, before moving to Swinton Square further down the line.
And what’s different about Freeze Factory?
The aim from the beginning was to serve the public with a smile and a product at a bargain price – the same as today. We still work on the same margin as we did back then, and haven’t deviated from our pricing policy.
If we pay less for a product, the customer then pays less for the product. We have built loyalty and haven’t needed to drop our prices to stay competitive.
So, what does the future look like?
We’ve grown hugely in the last 24 years, and learned a lot on the way! We’ve seen many changes on the high street and trading has been hard for all of us in the last couple of years. With the continued support of our wonderful customers we hope to serve you all for the next 24 years!
